Best Practices

• Use include blocks to DRY up common configuration from root terragrunt.hcl
• Configure remote_state in the root config and inherit in all child modules
• Use dependency blocks to express cross-module relationships and pass outputs
• Use generate blocks for provider.tf and backend.tf to avoid repetition
• Structure directories by environment and component (env/prod/vpc, env/prod/eks)
• Use read_terragrunt_config() to load shared variables from common.hcl files
• Set prevent_destroy = true on stateful resources in production
• Use path_relative_to_include() for dynamic state key generation
• Keep module source references in terraform blocks, not hardcoded paths
• Use run_cmd() sparingly and only for values that cannot be computed in HCL
• Configure retry_max_attempts and retryable_errors for transient failures
• Use locals blocks with find_in_parent_folders() for hierarchical config discovery
